Arabica (Coffea arabica) grows at higher elevations in the hills of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Most Indian Arabica is shade-grown, which slows cherry ripening and builds sweetness and complexity.
What does 'Plantation' mean for Indian Arabica?
In the Indian trade, 'Plantation' is the name for washed Arabica. The fruit is pulped and fermented before drying, producing a clean, bright cup. 'Arabica Cherry' is the natural (sun-dried whole cherry) equivalent, with more body and fruit.
Which roasters choose Indian Arabica?
Filter and pour-over roasters value washed Plantation AA for clarity; espresso roasters use Indian Arabica as a smooth base in blends; and specialty roasters buy selected estate lots for single-origin offerings.
How is Arabica priced?
Arabica prices follow the international Arabica market plus a differential for origin, grade and quality. We quote the current price for your grade and quantity with a short validity and confirm it when the contract is signed.
